The Brain Academy
The Brain Academy for Music, Film and Media Arts Is a 501-c3 after school program geared at peer mentoring at risk youth through the arts. Our mission is to provide a venue to help inner city youth develop and create talents while attempting to steer them away from negative elements plaguing our youth of today.
This program will be offered in 2010 starting in Brooklyn NY and Charlotte NC with schools opening in Miami, Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles over the next 5 years.
Classes will be open for young adults from age 12-21 with open programs for all ages on off days. Courses are as follows:
DJing- workshops in mixing, scratching, blending (vinyl and digital).....reggae, hip-hop, house , R&B and making mix tapes (with hip-hop history)
Music Production- workshops in Pro-tools, workstation keyboards, midi, beat making, film scoring, editing and mixing.
Film Production- Camera (still and motion), sound editing, writing, screenplays and acting.
Dance- Jazz, tap, hip-hop.
Classes will be broken up into skill levels (novice-pro), after the 1st semester of each year students will work together to create a
original program using all of the elements learned during the year. Students will perform for their community and peers while filming a DVD
with proceeds being used for the school with a percentage going to other charities allowing the students to "pay it forward".
